The Book Fair Rocked!

Thanks to everyone who made the Book Fair possible! It could not have been a success without you. We made around $800 to buy new books plus we earned about the same amount in Scholastic books from the Book Fair. Thanks so much to our fabulous Dean Rusk volunteers. You rock!

The Book Fair is Here!

Come to the media center October 13 from 8AM to 3:30 PM or October 14-19 from 8 AM to 6PM and check out our great selection of books. We have the entire Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, including Mockingjay in hard cover for only $17.99. We also have the premier novel in the new Egyptian mythology series by Rick Riordan, The Red Pyramid. For all you Vladimir Tod fans, there’s Twelfth Grade Kills by Heather Brewer. And don’t forget The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, the new Twilight novella from Stephenie Meyer. For all you graphic novel fans we have The Simpsons and Bone by Jeff Smith. And what’s a book fair without The Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley’s Believe It or Not? And all new this year: young adult novels by favorite YA authors such as Sarah Dessen and award-winner Judy Blundell. Sign in to the media center when you enter the book fair and you could be the winner of $50 of free books!

Wow! Look at what our students are doing with Animoto! This is what “Rachel” (not her actual name, stalkers) has done with Animoto! And how perfect, since it supports books and reading, and we have a book fair coming up this week. Go Dean Rusk Readers! And don’t forget about our Dean Rusk Survivor competiton. Read 8 books and complete the graphic organizer by the holiday break and you’re in for the first party!

What’s more fun? Animoto’s new video clips, or a book fair with the theme “Read Around the World?” Ask DR Library, and find out!

Have Fun Around the World

Did we mention that we’re having a Book Fair? Come by the media center to check out our “Read Around the World” display of maps, globes, and books about countries and places you might want to visit–vicariously through our books. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to enter our Glogster Book Fair contest. All you have to do is create a glog including the Book Fair dates and times: October 12-16, 8AM-6PM, and include the “Read Around the World” theme. And of course you’ll want to mention that it’s at the Dean Rusk Media Center. Then just email your glog to askdrlibrary@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name and homeroom teacher when you email your glog. You can create a paper poster instead if you’re not into glogging yet. Just drop it off at the media center, being sure to include all the aforementioned info. And, oh yeah, the winner walks away with a $50 spending spree at the Book Fair! Woo hoo!

What Do Glogster and Book Fairs Have In Common? Fun…And Learning!

If your class hasn’t been to the media center yet to learn how to use Glogster to create cool electronic posters…what have you been waiting for???? Ask your teacher to get you to the media center ASAP so you can learn how to use Glogster and enter the contest.

If you’re already in the know, then get started making your glog today to enter the contest to win a $50 shopping spree at our upcoming book fair. The book fair will be in the media center October 12-16 from 8AM-6PM. We’ll be open late on Friday, October 16 until 7:30 so you can stop by before the Sequoyah game.

If we meet our sales goal, Dr. T has promised a big surprise for our students! If you don’t know how to use Glogster, go to the Glogster pathfinderat http://askdrlibrary.wikispaces.com/Glogster to find sources of copyright-friendly images and royalty-free music. Then click on the link to go to http://edu.glogster.com/ and create a glog. Be sure your glog is copyright-friendly, includes the book fair dates and times, and includes the “Read Around the World” theme.

If you don’t have a Glogster account, email Mrs. Fleet at askdrlibrary@gmail.com and she’ll give you an educational account user name and password. You can also email your glog to that email address when you’re finished to enter the contest.

Not sure you can create a glog? No problem? Just create a regular poster and drop it off at the media center. Be sure to include your full name, no matter what kind of poster you create.
